INTERIOR DESIGN - Furnishing

COURSE BEGINS THE NEXT: 22nd September 2010
Enrollment deadline: at class completion
FREE STAGES (one full day) available 7th September 2010 (see page "stages")

Artistic drawing : 2 hours a week in the first semester.

The program is subdivided in three parts. The first is dedicated to the chromatic connections that are experienced through the tempera colours, realizing tables of increasing difficulty, where the colours relating to the furnishings of an environment are combined. The second part is dedicated to the realization of sketches for the decoration of interiors. The third part is dedicated to the realization of perspective coloured views of interiors, on the basis of plants provided by the teacher. Through the coloration the effects of the already experienced chromatic connections will be verified, and some of the previously projected elements of decoration will be added, too.

Geometric Drawing : 2 hours a week in the first semester.

Introduction to the two-dimensional geometry. Practical work on the construction of two-dimensional geometric figures. Theoretical acquisition and practical works on the principal systems of projection on a plane, as: Orthogonal projections, Axonometric projections, central projections and linear perspectives.

Executive technique: 4 hours a week in the first semester.

Introduction to the concept of sign. The problems concerning the representation , the instruments and the means of expression. Drawing of interiors: the relief of the environment (method of the triangulations) the scale reduction, the distribution of the spaces. Representation on lay-out, overview, section, three-dimensional views. The conventional signs. The planning and the anthropometry. Study of symbols and normative.

Operative drawing: 2 hours a week in the first and second semester.

First semester: architecture of interiors, introduction to the planning, method and methodology. Analysis and planning of pieces of furniture according to capabilities and human limitations. The ergonomic and anthropometric parameters. Introduction to the lighting project. Normative and symbols. Second semester : the sign as an expression code and its functionalrepresentation. Feasible project , general project, executive project. The lighting: the technical project and the classifications of light in the architecture of interiors. practical works:study of the groupings in a private space. Integrated planning of an organized space for commercial purposes.

Materials:2 hours a week in the second semester.

The subject aims to convey an in-depth knowledge of the materials for the architecture of interiors, preparing the students to be well aware and make rational selections. The lessons deal with the principal materials for floors and covering, describing their characteristics, their workmanships, treatments, placement-systems, forms, productions.
Following the themes proposed by the teacher, the planning has to take particular care of the choice of materials, that need to be well defined in their characteristics and quantities, until the tracing of a specification.

Housing typology:2 hours a week in the first and second semester.

It is thought that the task of the interior decorator ( not simply understood as " a person with taste " but as a professional), is that of giving to the environment a conformation followingboth quality and functionality. With quality-functionality we intend a rational distribution of the spaces following precise demands, an accurate choice of materials, and of single pieces offurniture and of colours. The living environment is conclusive to " the quality of life " and therefore for the behaviour of the individual, in this sense the function of the interior decorationsshould have social motivations .The interior decorator, as a technician of the habitat, is no more to be considered as a privilege, but as the aesthetical dimension (even in the living ) that answers to the necessity of the individual to measure himself with the space where he lives and with the things that surround him. The lessons, during the two semesters, have different characteristics and functions. theoretical-formative interventions on the various topics (composition, form, colour, comparisons, materials, objects? analysis and comparisons, etc.) are alternated with lessons of review with the single student, or small groups, on the works in their execution phase.

Planning: 5 hours a week in the second semester.

Project methodology of the architecture of the interior. Research and analysis of the demands, of the functions and of the distributive criterions. The syllabus comprehends the assignment of topics with different characters and typologies ( from a private house to shops, offices ) that will have to be realized with substantial graphic works comprehending planimetries, sections, perspectives, axonometric, technical tables regarding plumbers and electric lay-outs, study of colours and description of the materials. The works are regularly checked and discussed with the single student and for those projects of general interest - all the students of the course come to be involved.
